While our new website is under construction, welcome to our temporary website.
Most Canadian nonprofit organizations are overseen by a group called the Board of Directors. This group of individuals has the legal responsibility to ensure the overall governance of the organization. In short, employees are responsible for day-to-day operations and decision-making, while the board provides leadership and a broad perspective for the organization.
Our nine board members are talented, generous, and dedicated volunteers who meet once a month. Each brings their own experience, vision, or expertise to help us carry out our day-to-day work while keeping an eye on the direction we should take for our future. To do this, especially within a highly collaborative organization like the Roulant, we need board members who are actively engaged, eager to learn, and willing to roll up their sleeves. Our board members do all of this beautifully, and we are very fortunate to have them serve two-year terms.
Establish the general framework for good governance and general regulations, approve the budget, and oversee the process for recruiting board members;
Develop long-term plans and objectives;
Contribute to financial stability through oversight and, at times, fundraising efforts;
Cultivate positive relationships with the community, attend events, act as a spokesperson, and contribute to the organization’s activities and the development of its organizational culture;
Ensure that governance at the Roulant (including the Board of Directors) reflects our identity and aspirations;
Hire, evaluate, and work with the executive director.
If you want more info about the role of a Board, you can consult our bylaws on the publications section of our site.
